About reStart

At reStart, we exist to end homelessness in Kansas City. To do so, we believe we must serve and accept everyone. We tackle homelessness from all angles of the housing continuum. With more than four decades of steadfast dedication to ending homelessness, reStart uses our experience and insight to mobilize our teams, partners and larger community to address this urgent and growing need. We advocate for, and instill hope in, the most vulnerable members of our community.

Through emergency shelter, individualized case management and wrap-around services, we are here to support the whole person and shepherd residents from homelessness to safe and stable housing.

What does it mean to experience homelessness?

Homelessness means something different for everyone. It can be unstable housing, sleeping on the streets or in a car, fleeing abuse or being at risk of losing your residence.

Our History

reStart, Inc. began in 1981 as an overnight emergency shelter in downtown Kansas City and has grown into one of the region’s largest homeless service providers.

reStart is the only provider that serves all unhoused populations while providing emergency, temporary and permanent housing programs. With over 40 years of service in the Kansas City area, reStart has become a community leader advocating for and modeling best practices for permanently ending homelessness.
