Volunteer

reStart hosts thousands of volunteers each year. They assist in a variety of ways and our efforts to end homelessness would not be possible without the involvement of so many caring and hard working volunteers! Below we have listed a few examples: 

Client-Based Volunteer Activities – these include activities where volunteers engage in direct contact with reStart program participants.

  • Bring/serving lunch or dinner
  • Homework help
  • Supervising SNAP Center
  • Monthly birthday parties
  • Special events for clients (such as entertainment, arts activities, etc.)

Agency Support Volunteer Activities – these include activities that impact the facility(s). our

  • Work groups
  • Painting/repairs
  • Cleaning and maintaining the facility
  • Organizing the donation room
  • Help stock the food pantry

PIT Volunteer –

We are seeking volunteers to assist with the 2016 Greater Kansas City Point in Time (PIT) homeless count, a federally mandated biennial survey, will be conducted in Kansa City from 3:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 27 and 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 28.  More than 100 trained volunteers will take to the streets, shelters, outdoor camps, churches, libraries, feeding, and other locations to conduct personal one-on-one interviews.
