2016 Homeless Count Begins Wednesday, January 27
Kansas City, MO (January 24, 2016) – The 2016 Greater Kansas City Point in Time (PIT) homeless count, a federally mandated biennial survey, will be conducted in Kansa City from 3:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 27 and 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 28. More than 100 trained volunteers will take to the streets, shelters, outdoor camps, churches, libraries, feeding, and other locations to conduct personal one-on-one interviews.
The PIT survey is used to help determine the prevalence and characteristics of persons experiencing homelessness. “Youth experiencing homelessness is a growing population” said Evelyn Craig, President & CEO of reStart, Inc. “For a third year, Youth Counts will mobilize volunteers and pool staff resources from youth-serving programs to support efforts to get unaccompanied youth accurately counted,” said Craig.
HUD: In January and July of each year, the U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) office requires each community to count the number of unduplicated sheltered and unsheltered homeless persons in efforts to support strategic planning on behalf of homeless reduction in the country.
